Archery Courses

Traditional, intuitive archery

Why intuitive archery ?

In our daily life we do many things intuitively without thinking about it. We reach for a full mug of coffee without knocking it over or we throw a scrunched up piece of paper into the rubbish bin. We don’t have to think about how to carry out these movements, we just do them – intuitively.

The term “intuition” is related to perception and insight. It is the ability to make an immediate decision without using reason and without a conscious decision-making process. Intuition is part of a creative process and development.

Intuitive archery involves shooting an arrow without consciously thinking about it. This type of archery is often also called instinctive archery. Concentration and inner collection are trained as much as release and relaxation – skills that you can use in your day-to-day life.

Courses

Thumb technique beginner’s course (240 min.)

This course teaches you the basics of the thumb technique, which really allows a bow for mounted archery to come into its own. Find or improve your personal shooting style under our guidance in the company of like-minded people.

You do not need any knowledge of archery. Experience has shown that even beginners can learn the basics of the thumb technique in 2-3 hours. You will be shown the details of this technique, which is still used in large parts of Asia and Arabia, with a lot of fun and a variety of exercises. Of course this is also a great chance for archers who use the Mediterranean draw to learn and be inspired by something completely new.

Every participant is lent a homemade bow (recurve bow) with a light draw weight free of charge to easily learn the thumb technique. In addition, wooden arrows and a quiver as well as protection for your bow hand and thumb are provided – also free of charge of course.

The thumb technique beginner’s course has the following objectives:

  • Correct use of the bow and arrow
  • Posture and breathing

Advanced thumb technique (180 min.)

If you already feel comfortable with the basics of the thumb technique this course will introduce you to new challenges. First the participant’s existing knowledge is assessed and improved if necessary. We encourage the participants to share their experiences with each other.

Next, we will practice different methods of notching the arrow in preparation for faster shooting later on. You will get detailed instructions and ideas for optimising the process of releasing the arrow and tips for your posture and the movement of the bow before, during and after the shot. One particular challenge is continuously shooting arrows held in the drawing hand. Who can shoot the most arrows?

Every participant is lent a home-made riding bow (recurve bow) free of charge with a suitable drawing weight. In addition, wooden arrows and a quiver, as well as protection for the bow hand and the thumb are provided – also free of charge of course.

The objectives of the advanced thumb technique course are:

  • Practicing your own, individual technique
  • Learning different techniques for notching the arrow
  • Method for “blind” notching as the basis for faster shooting
  • Special, Saracen/Ottoman Techniques for releasing the arrow
  • “Tip and turn” technique for the bow
  • Different methods for shooting with arrows from the drawing hand
  • Quick, intuitive shooting
  • Improving coordination

Special techniques: “Arrow Guide” and “Siper” (180 min.)

Shooting short arrows with the Siper or arrow guide presents a particular challenge. Mastering the thumb technique is a prerequisite as, especially with the Siper, you can otherwise injure yourself badly.

After a short “warm-up” shooting session with normal long arrows, we will look at the Siper. Holding the short arrow without any pressure in the small groove of the Siper and then releasing it cleanly is very challenging. The arrow guide also requires a bit of finesse and patience, until you are able to place the 14-inch arrow in the system and release it cleanly.

Every participant is lent a home-made riding bow (recurve bow) free of charge with a suitable drawing weight. In addition, wooden arrows and a quiver, as well as protection for the bow hand and the thumb are provided – also free of charge of course.

Please note:

If an arrow is lost or broken, we have to charge € 4.00 per arrow.
